Notre Dame and Adiddas Monday unveiled the football team's uniform for its Shamrock Series game, and it is already getting mixed reviews.
The Fightin' Irish will wear the uniforms when they take on Arizona State at A&T Stadium (formerly Cowboys Stadium) in Arlington, Texas on Oct. 5. The introduction came with an ear-splitting video, as well.
According to an
athletic department news release, the all-white jersey will feature metallic gold and kelly green shamrock accents, Celtic numbers and an interlocking "ND" logo on the back neck.

"Adidas TECHFIT ShockWeb features engineered body mapping, which maximizes compression zones across the chest and sides, in a lightweight knit structure that provides a tight fit with enhanced range of motion," added the press release. "Integrated CLIMACOOL mesh zones create airflow to keep players cool in every temperature."
USA Today's Paul Myerberg said, though, he longs for the day when football uniforms were simpler, worn for years and then handed down to junior varsity.
"There was a time when football programs had two uniforms, one for home games, one for away, with each uniform featuring two basic colors – say, blue and gold," wrote Myerberg. "'This is the way it should be,' says the older gentleman, waving his cane from his porch. Notre Dame’s new uniforms are new, which bothers some people, and also very, very different, which raises some eyebrows."
Allan Brettman, of
The Oregonian, who has cover stories about the wild uniforms worn by the University of Oregon's football team, said he believes this uniform is a tamed-down version from what Notre Dame used in the 2012 Shamrock Series game.
"While it's not a conservative statement in a world of ever-outrageous college football uniforms, this year's iteration probably will not light up the comment sections like last year's Shamrock Series uniform," he wrote.
Most of the fan response on Adiddas's Facebook page has been overwhelming positive on one condition, summed up by Fran Thorbeck's post: "(I like) Everything! But glad it's only for one game a year. I like the classics as well!"
