Nielsen, famous for measuring TV viewing, said it’s now offering the same for subscription video on demand, for which numbers have always been closely guarded. Here’s a sneak peek at what some of the data showed for September.

The three streaming shows most popular last month from each of the three big providers were "The Man in the High Castle" on Amazon, "Narcos" on Netflix, and "The Handmaid’s Tale" on Hulu.

If you watched “The Tick,” “Stranger Things” or "11.22.63" you also were cool, according to Nielsen data crunched by Parrot Analytics and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

Other top popular streamed series were "The Grand Tour" on Amazon, "Ozark" on Netflix, "The Path" on Hulu and "Transparent" on Amazon, according to the new data.

Nielsen said its new subscription content ratings service has already signed on eight major television networks and production studios.

The company said it had been measuring streaming content since 2014 but the information was only individually released to the companies streaming the programs.

Megan Clarken, president of Watch, Nielsen, said the “significant growth of SVOD services in entertainment markets across the world has created demand from rights owners to understand the size and composition of audiences relative to other programs and platforms.”

Revealing the numbers and demographics of the hidden market are likely to support what many have been saying, viewership of streamed programs is catching up fast to traditional viewing.

It’s estimated that between 12 and 13 percent of television consumption now consists of streamed programs, said Brian Fuhrer, Nielsen's senior vice president of product leadership.
