A New Windsor, New York, cosmetics factory explosion has left one dead and over 30 injured, according to CBS New York.

The incident took place on Monday morning at the Verla International cosmetics factory, with authorities reporting two explosions and a fire.

According to Time, firefighters responding to the emergency were in the factory when the secondary explosion occurred.

Authorities at the scene said that between 30 and 35 people were treated for injuries, including seven firefighters, two of whom had to be transported to the burn unit at Westchester Medical Center.

One male worker was reported missing at the time of the explosion but he was later confirmed dead after authorities recovered his body, ABC News reported. The man’s identity is yet to be released.

The wife of one of the injured firefighter, Saleema Muhammad, shared her husband’s experience.

"A wall came down after the explosion, came down on him and he fractured his right ankle," she said, per CBS New York. "We’re so blessed because it could’ve been so much worse."

An employee, Tessa Castillo, told the news channel that she was sitting at her desk when the explosion occurred.

"I kind of thought it was lightning or something. It was kinda like a big bang and everything kind of shook," she said.

A 19-year-old lab assistant, Andrea Latorraca, was working upstairs when the first explosion erupted.

"When we got downstairs, all we saw were flames," she said, according to ABC News. "Running across the street, get to the other side. All just people scared, everyone pushing, trying to get out."

As of Tuesday, no cause for the explosion had been determined. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state would conduct further investigations.

"I am directing a multi-agency investigation to get to the bottom of what happened and review compliance with state labor and environmental laws," he said, according to Time.
