A New Orleans Ninth Ward shooting left two teens dead and five others injured after a car full of gunmen sprayed bullets at a group of people gathered on a front porch Sunday night.

It's not yet clear what motivated the shooting in the Lower Ninth Ward around 8 p.m. Sunday, but New Orleans Police Department spokesperson Frank Robertson told NOLA.com that the injured include a 37-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl, and two toddler boys, aged 4 and 2.

The victims were initially reported to be an unidentified male and an 18-year-old female, but neighborhood residents told media outlets one of the slain was 16-year-old Jasmine Anderson.

"She was a good student, and she was just an innocent bystander," Lillie Reese, Anderson's great aunt, told NOLA.com. "She had just gone to get a bottle of water and was walking past that house. Now my niece's life is gone behind someone else's foolishness."

Witnesses reported hearing at least 15 gunshots as a car full of suspects drove past a gathering in front of a home on Burgundy Street.

"There were eight or nine shots, then a pause, then at least six or nine more," one unidentified neighbor told NOLA.com. "The shots came in pretty quick succession. You could still hear music playing, but then there was all this screaming. I saw some family come out, and they said their little girl had been shot in the head."

Reese, Anderson's aunt, told the news site that her niece had recently mentioned hearing a rumor about someone "shooting up that house" across the street from theirs.

Police are currently investigating and searching for what was described as a dark, late-model sedan with a Louisiana license plate.
