The new Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet's latest edition of the iconic sport's car, will be released in August.

The redesigned sleek vehicle, which will come in both coupe and convertible, is technologically advanced with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, allowing the new Corvette Stingray to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds.

Structurally rigid, the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray has an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque through the rear wheels, Forbes magazine reported.

Referred to as the "C7" for being the Corvette's seventh redesign in its 60-year history, the new Stingray harkens back to the iconic 1960s style sports car with its sleek features, long nose, and steeply raked windshield.

The completely redesigned Corvette C7 Stingray was debuted to the public in January at the Detroit Auto Show.

"It's more than just a sports car . . . It's an emotion. It's a passion. It is a vehicle that is larger than life," GM design chief Ed Welburn said during the show.

Designed by GM Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and design director Tom Peters, the Detroit automaker is hoping the new C7 will be able to challenge and beat out other sports cars, particularly imports from Germany and Italy such as the Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari which currently lead the market.

"It’s a vehicle you could theoretically drive every day, but yet has supercar performance," Chevrolet’s head of consumer affairs James Bell told DigitalTrends.com in a recent interview.

"When you compare the numbers of this car to a Porsche or a lower entry-level Ferrari, you’re right there for a portion of the price," Bell added. "But the fact that it’s a Chevrolet, means that if something happens to the car, there’s probably a couple of Chevy stores in your neighborhood that you can take it into."

According to Bell, the new Corvette Stingray has a top speed of around 200 miles per hour while still getting 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

"It’s just a really beautiful car that happens to be wrapped over a very high-performance chassis," Bell added.

The C7 will be manufactured in Bowling Green, Ky., and will be offered at
an estimated base price of $59,000, according to Motortrend.com.
