Peta Murgatroyd of "Dancing with the Stars" fame is officially a U.S. citizen. The 33-year-old announced the news in an emotional post to Instagram Wednesday following her swearing-in ceremony. It was a moment she had dreamt about for several years.

"I love the life I created, but it wouldn’t be possible without the United States giving me the chance to succeed and live in the best country in the world, where dreams really do come true," the dance pro wrote.

Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Murgatroyd spent her childhood dreaming about making it as an international performer.

"I dreamt of performing on the worlds biggest stage, I dreamt of people knowing my name, I dreamt of being the best at my craft, I dreamt of making a difference in the world and most of all I dreamt of making my family proud and proving that I could do it at the highest level," she said in her post.

Murgatroyd poured everything into her dancing and eventually the hard work paid off. She joined the cast of "Burn the Floor" in 2004 and toured the world for several years but she solidified her career after settling down on U.S. soil and appearing in "Dancing with the Stars."

During that time, she met and married choreographer Maksim Chmerkovskiy and two years ago they welcomed their first child, Shai Aleksander Chmerkovskiy, according to E! News.

Starting a family only deepened Murgatroyd's desire to become a U.S. citizen but it would take years before her dream became a reality.

"After countless U.S. Visas starting from 2006 and the last 5 years with a Green Card, I am officially a United States citizen," she wrote adding that she "cried at the ceremony" and then "cried in private." They were tears of joy.

"This country gave me my career, it’s where I found the love of my life, and it’s where my first child was born," she said. "This will always be home now."

Ending her post, Murgatroyd vowed to treat the country "with the upmost respect" and to always "honor the flag" and The Pledge of Allegiance.

"I don’t take this lightly," she wrote. "God Bless America us."
