As the year comes to a close it is time to look back at 2019 and its defining moments. This was a big year for Netflix, which released dozens of original movies, some which were hits and others that were misses. Here we look at the five best and worst of the lot, as reported by Insider.

5 Best Netflix Movies

5. "Dolemite Is My Name"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 97%

This American biographical comedy sees Eddie Murphy play the real-life iconic comedic and rap pioneer Rudy Ray Moore.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus: "In dramatizing Rudy Ray Moore's stranger-than-fiction story, Eddie Murphy makes 'Dolemite Is My Name' just as bold, brash, and ultimately hard to resist as its subject."

4. "American Factory"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 97%

Described as "thoughtful" and "troubling," this movie follows the story of a Chinese billionaire who opens a factory in an abandoned General Motors plant in post-industrial Ohio.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus: "'American Factory' takes a thoughtful — and troubling — look at the dynamic between workers and employers in the 21st-century globalized economy."

3. "Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 98%

A documentary that uses live concert footage and interviews to give audiences a closer look into what life for Beyoncé is like.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus: "Beychella forever."

2."Beat"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 100%

Critics were full of praise for "Beats," which looks at an unlikely friendship formed through a love of hip-hop between a reclusive teen prodigy and a struggling producer.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus: "Well-acted and enlivened by an evocative soundtrack and period detail, 'Beats' draws timeless themes out of its specific story and setting."

1. "Knock Down the House"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 100%

This political documentary follows the rise of four unlikely women who challenge those with power in Congress.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus: "A galvanizing glimpse behind the scenes of a pivotal election, 'Knock Down the House' should prove engrossing for viewers of all political persuasions."

5 Worst Netflix Movies

5. "Otherhood"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 26%

As empty-nesters feeling forgotten on Mother's Day, four friends drive to New York to reconnect with one another.

3. "Polar"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 20%

A thriller (or not so much!) taking a look at the life of the world's top assassin, who is called out of retirement to face an army of young and ruthless killers.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus: "An action thriller starring Mads Mikkelsen as the world's most dangerous assassin should be terrifically entertaining, but 'Polar' proves it's possible to ruin anything if you try."

2.  "The Last Summer"— Rotten Tomatoes score: 17%

A comedy-drama that tells the intertwined stories of recent high school graduates discovering love and who they are during their final summer before college.
