At least 20 Motel 6 guests were arrested in Phoenix at two different locations between February and August after employees sent names and information to ICE without corporate approval.

While hotels are legally allowed to share guest information with authorities and are not required to tell guests their personal information will be shared, Motel 6 said employees would not be doing so any longer, Fortune reported.

A statement on Twitter said that the information-sharing had been “implemented on the local level without the knowledges of senior management” and that the practice would be stopped.

The ICE agents came to the Motel 6 locations about every two weeks to make arrests, The Washington Post reported. The actual number of arrests may have been higher than 20 because court documents were unclear on some arrest location information.

The two locations that gave information to ICE are corporate-owned, not franchises, the Post reported. One clerk said they reported the names of all guests to ICE every day.

Many on Twitter condemned the actions of the workers and also criticized the chain for allowing it, and the hashtag #BoycottMotel6 was trending Wednesday night.
