A Michigan mom visiting a local Tim Hortons bought coffee for women who insulted her while she was ordering, and now the story of the good deed has gone viral on social media.

"Oh look at her hair! It's nasty looking, and the roots are coming through," Dianne Hoffmeyer told ABC affiliate WXYZ, recalling what two middle-aged women said in hushed comments behind her in line.

Hoffmeyer said she was visiting the Tim Hortons with her 22-month-old daughter, Liliana, who'd been up all night teething. She ordered the toddler some donut holes, and a coffee for herself.

"Oh she's a whale, oh the whale needs to eat," the women responded to the order. "Oh, even the whale needs to have liquids. Maybe she should go back into the water."

Hoffmeyer said that she's "usually not quiet," saying "I've got a big mouth," but, because she had her daughter with her, she had a reaction she might not normally have.

"I just instantly started to cry because it hurts. I don't know the women. I've never seen them, met them and I don't know why they would choose to say something like that," she said.

That's when she decided to be a good role model for Liliana.

"I told my cashier 'I'll pay for their coffee' and she was like, 'What!?'" Hoffmeyer said.

After returning home, she wrote about her experience on Facebook, and the post soon went viral. According to USA Today, nearly 200,000 people have "Liked" the post, and Hoffmeyer has received nearly 100,000 friend requests on the network.

"Just when you think there's no one nice in the world, they're all on my Facebook page," Hoffmeyer said.

According to ABC News, the manager at Tim Hortons, Brittany Sanders, reported that, "The next day, we gave her a gift card and a Tim Hortons travel mug, and she was very pleased. I felt she did the right thing by killing it with kindness and paying it forward. She handled it very well."
