MLB player Tommy Pham is recovering from surgery after he was injured in a stabbing that took place outside a San Diego strip club. The incident happened Sunday night, reported The San Diego Union-Tribune. Unnamed sources said Pham, 32, was leaving Pacers Showgirls International when he came across people arguing near his car. The Padres outfielder was attacked when he asked that they move away from his vehicle.

Pham was stabbed in the lower back but no organs were damaged. San Diego police spokesman, Lt. Shawn Takeuchi, said it appeared that Pham did not know the suspects. An investigation has been launched.

The Padres confirmed the attack on Monday.

"We are aware of the incident last night involving Tommy Pham," a statement read. "He was treated at UC San Diego Health and is currently in good condition. He is expected to make a full recovery. The San Diego Police Department is actively investigating the incident and we will have no further comment at this time."

Pham also shared the news in a statement.

"I’d like to thank the incredible medical staff at UC San Diego Health for taking such great care of me last night," he said. "I truly appreciate the hard work of the [San Diego Police Department] as well as they continue their search for the suspects. While it was a very traumatic and eye-opening experience for me, I’m on the road to recovery and I know I’ll be back to my offseason training routine in no time."

Pham, a seven-year veteran, completed his first year in 2020 with the Padres, which reached the playoffs for the first time in 14 years this year, according to Sports Illustrated. They have not won playoff series since 1998.
