Miss Utah Flub Gets a Do-Over on 'Today' Show (Video)

Miss Utah Marissa Powell got a shot at redemption Tuesday after becoming the viral laughingstock of the Internet for her flub during the question-and-answer portion of the Miss USA pageant over the weekend.

Powell was mocked endlessly on Twitter for her answer to a question about why women continue to make less money than men despite being the primary earners in 40 percent of American families.

"I think we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to… figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem right now, and I think especially the men are seen as leaders of this and so we need to figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem," Powell answered.

Her bungled reply drew comparisons to Miss Teen South Carolina Caitlin Upton's infamous 2007 pageant answer about why a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map, which included some strange explanation about South Africa and "the Iraq."

But Powell was given a second chance Tuesday on the "Today" show when host Matt Lauer posed the question to her again. This time, though, she was prepared.

"This is not OK," she said. "It needs to be equal pay for equal work. It's hard enough already to earn a living, and it shouldn't be harder just because you're a woman."

Powell, who appeared on "Today" with the newly crowned Miss USA Erin Brady, said her nerves got the best of her at Sunday night's pageant, where she finished third runner-up.

"I was so excited, and I was so nervous, and I got up to this top-five question," she told Lauer. "I was the first one. I got up, and the question was a little bit confusing to me, and I just started speaking without really processing."
