The newly crowned Miss America 2014 received a slew of vile tweets after taking the win at Sunday night's pageant and becoming the first Indian-American titleholder in the organization's history.
Miss New York Nina Davuluri, 24, was crowned Miss America 2014 Sunday on her platform of "Celebrating Diversity Through Cultural Competency," which she showcased through an Indian-Bollywood-style dance.

"I'm so proud to be the first Indian Miss America," she told reporters after her big win. "I'm so happy this organization has celebrated diversity, and, on this stage tonight, there was so much diversity."
But the Syracuse, N.Y., native was later slammed on Twitter by users calling her a "terrorist" and a "Muslim."
"9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss America?" @LukeBrasili posted in a tweet that was later deleted.
"Miss America right now or miss Al Qaeda?" @SHANN_Wow tweeted.
"For Miss America's talent…building a bomb in 15 seconds! An [sic] getting it through Airport security in less than 30! #nojoke," @beau_kloeppel wrote.
But other Twitter users stood up for Davuluri and bashed those who tweeted nasty things about her.
Davuluri brushed off the Twitter criticism.
"I have to rise above that," she told The Associated Press Monday. "I always viewed myself as first and foremost American."
Davuluri is the second consecutive Miss New York to take the Miss America crown, succeeding Mallory Hagan. The two made headlines in the months leading up to the pageant after Davuluri was reportedly
caught on tape describing Hagan as "fat as [expletive]."
