Mira Furlan, best known for her roles in "Babylon 5" and "Lost," has died at age 65. News that the actress passed away on Wednesday was announced on her official Twitter page and confirmed by J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of "Babylon 5," on Friday.
"It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her," he tweeted. "But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe."
Furlan was cast as Ambassador Delenn in the 1993 sci-fi series "Babylon 5," which ran for five seasons. She then took on the role of a scientist stranded on a mysterious island in the hit series "Lost" in 2004, according to Today.
Born in 1955 in the Croatian capital Zagreb, Furlan established herself as an actress with multiple appearances in plays, TV shows, and films, including the 1985 Oscar-nominated movie "When Father Was Away on Business," Deadline reported. In 1991 she and her husband emigrated to the U.S. due to the political circumstances in her homeland.
In addition to her multiple TV series appearances, Furlan's film credits include "The Beauty of Vice," "Three for Happiness," and "In the Jaws of Life," among others.
"Mira was a good and kind woman, a stunningly talented performer, and a friend to everyone in the cast and crew of 'Babylon 5,' and we are all devastated by the news," Straczynski wrote. "The cast members with whom she was especially close since the show's end will need room to process this moment, so please be gentle if they are unresponsive for a time. We have been down this road too often, and it only gets harder."
