Mikah Frye, 9, Gives Up Xbox to Help Homeless, Microsoft Takes Notice

Mikah Frye gave up his Xbox to help the homeless this Christmas, but the 9-year-old Ohio boy's good deed was repaid when Microsoft gave him a new console after hearing about the selfless act.

Most children would jump at the chance to get a new Xbox One S, but according to Fortune, Frye told his grandmother he would rather use the money to buy blankets for the homeless.

It was something the boy could relate to, having briefly lived in a shelter with his family three years ago, Mashable noted, and so he went out and bought 600 blankets to donate to the Ashland Church Community Emergency Shelter Services.

The boy's mother, Sara Brown, told Fox News that their family "hit some financial problems, me and my husband and Mikah we ended up losing our home. We stayed there for just a few weeks until we found a new place to live."

"He knew what it was like to not have a blanket at night and have to give it back," said Frye's grandmother, Terry Brant, according to Mashable. "So the first thing he wanted to do is give a blanket that they could keep."

Each of the blankets was presented with a handwritten note by Frye, who said, "They gave me a blanket, but I had to leave it. That's why I want you to have your own blanket ... Today, I live in my own house, and someday you will too. Your friend Mikah."

It was not long before Microsoft caught wind of the story, which had drawn widespread attention, and planned a big surprise for Frye at Beachwood Place on Saturday, Fox News said.

He was led to the back of the store, where Fortune reported Santa was waiting to hand over two bags full of gifts including an Xbox, a second controller and various games.
