A Midwest storm is packing snow, high winds, tornado warnings, and possible blizzard conditions as it churns into the area after pummeling the Rocky Mountains earlier this week.

Six inches of snow fell in northern Colorado near Palmer and in the central portion of the state on Wednesday, just a day after reported temperatures of 70 degrees, NBC News reported. Strong winds reduced visibility around Denver and iced roads, even though it did not bring much snow there, according to KUSA-TV.

About 12 inches of new snow fell in the Copper Mountain area, about 75 miles from Denver, which benefited ski resorts there. About 190 flights were canceled Wednesday at Denver International Airport because of the weather.

The storm system began rolling into the Midwest Wednesday, and the National Weather Service soon issued tornado watches for Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa, CBS News reported. The storm is expected to affect people as far south as Texas and as far north as Michigan on Thursday.

There were numerous reports of tornadoes, hail, and strong wind around Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, and Missouri on Wednesday.

The Weather Channel reported that the storm, generated by a low-pressure system, will likely continue to affect the Plains, Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley through Friday. The channel compared it to a past "witches of November" storm that sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior 40 years ago this week.

High-wind warnings were issued by the National Weather Service in numerous areas from Minnesota and Iowa eastward to parts of upstate New York. Meteorologists said to expect sustained winds around 35 miles per hour and gusts of up to 60 mph, according to TWC.
