Microsoft Creative Director's Twitter Rant Costs Him Job

By    |   Thursday, 11 Apr 2013 11:59 AM

Microsoft Creative Director Adam Orth reportedly resigned after he got a bunch of bad publicity following his sarcastic Twitter rant last week, according to Game Informer.

Orth, who headed up Xbox and Microsoft's gaming arm, posted a series of pointed tweets last week in a back-and-forth with Twitter user Manveer Heir, a gameplay designer at BioWare.

The conversation stemmed from a rumor that Microsoft is developing a new console that will require a constant Internet connection to play, and Heir was arguing that such a requirement might alienate those who don't live in well-connected areas.

"Sorry, I don’t get the drama around having an 'always on' console. Every device now is 'always on.' That's the world we live in. #dealwithit," Orth wrote.

Heir pointed out that Orth has always lived in bustling cities. "Try living in Janesville, WI or Blacksburg, VA," Heir tweeted.

"Why on earth would I live there?" Orth shot back.

Microsoft issued an apology last week for Orth's behavior, and he reportedly resigned this week.

"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday," Microsoft said in a statement released Friday. "This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer-centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone."

Still, the exchange infuriated Xbox loyalists who felt a representative of Microsoft should be more sensitive and empathetic with the consumer.

"A completely rude thing for a representative for any company to say," one person posted.

"I guess someone now has to DEAL WITH finding a new job," another said.
