Michael Moore gave Stephen Colbert a sneak peek of his new anti-Trump documentary during an appearance on Thursday's "The Late Show."
The liberal filmmaker has partnered with veteran film exec Tom Ortenberg to produce “Fahrenheit 11/9,” a documentary that takes a critical look at the Trump era, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
Named in the same vein as Moore's 2004 film “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which targeted President George W. Bush, the new documentary is set for release on Sept. 21, several weeks be the mid-term elections.
Moore told Colbert he could not reveal "too much right now" but he did preview some footage showing him being refused entry at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf club.
"Just tell him it's me," Moore tells a doorman in the clip, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
An official film synopsis has described the forthcoming documentary as "a provocative and comedic look at the times in which we live," and will explore two pertinent questions about the Trump era – how we got here and how do we get out?
After the preview was aired, the two chatted about the U.S.'s current political climate.
"He outsmarted all of us," Moore told Colbert of Trump, according to Vanity Fair.
"Nobody took him seriously. I tried to warn people he was gonna win Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania. People laughed or booed. I wasn’t saying it ’cause I wanted it to happen."
He also spoke up about Trump's immigration policy.
"We're not talking about political differences, we're talking about thousands of children being separated from their parents and put in jails," Moore said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "This is insanity, it is not who we are, is it?"
Backstage, Moore bumped into political newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who made a last-minute appearance on Colbert's show, Vanity Fair noted.
Two months ago, Moore and his crew had filmed scenes with her and he reportedly intends to include her in his film.
