Michael Douglas is recounting how he met and fell in love with his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones. In celebration of their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, the 76-year-old actor shared their sweet story in an audio message on Instagram.

It was love at first sight for Douglas, who first laid eyes on Zeta-Jones on the big screen while watching the film "The Mask of Zorro," which starred the actress. Upon learning who she was, Douglas was desperate to meet the emerging star. His opportunity came a month later while attending the Deauville American Film Festival.

"I see on the schedule that the next day at the festival, they're going to have 'Zorro' there," Douglas recalled. "So I asked my assistant: 'Can you find out if Catherine Zeta-Jones is going to be here at the festival and if she's coming alone? And if she is, can I have a drink with her?'"

His assistant was able to arrange the drink, which led to an invite to join Zeta-Jones at dinner with Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith. Zeta-Jones had another engagement to attend so Douglas asked if she would join him at the bar a little later.

"Sure enough, I must have been batting one thousand, because, after the movie, I'm sitting at the bar, and like 'Lawrence of Arabia,' this mirage comes through the lobby and it's Catherine Zeta-Jones," the "Fatal Attraction" star said.

Things were going well until Douglas boldly declared that he was going to be the father of Zeta-Jones' children.

"She looked at me and she said, 'I've heard a lot about you, I've heard a lot about you, I guess it's all true, good night,'" he remembered. "And she left. She left early the next morning and I thought I completely had blown it."

However, fate was on his side, as the two "made contact" again and "the rest is history."

Douglas and Zeta-Jones tied the knot in 2000, and share two children, Dylan, 20, and Carys, 17.
