Mexico aid for Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey is headed toward Houston, and Texas Gov. Greg Abott said he is happy to be getting it. The help was offered last week while President Donald Trump was bashing Mexico.

Mexico's undersecretary for North American relations, Carlos Manuel Sada, confirmed the aid package with CNN, saying U.S. officials had helped.

"This morning we gave the green light to start concentrating the goods that will be sent to the United States," Sada said last Wednesday.

No official announcement has been made by the Trump administration, but Abott already announced Mexico’s efforts to provide assistance to those affected by the storm.

"Yes. I have, and we are," Abbott told the Dallas News. "We had a list of aid and assistance that they have offered to provide that we are accepting."

The Mexican consul general in Austin, Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, told the News he had been in constant communication with Abott’s office in an attempt to establish how Mexico could best help Texas in the wake of Harvey.

"As we have done in the past, Mexico stands with Texas in this difficult moment," he said.

Mexican consul general in Dallas, Francisco de la Torre Galindo, echoed those sentiments, saying “the offer for help and collaboration acknowledges a reality.”

He went on, "we live in the same neighborhood called North America. We can't be distant neighbors, not any more, not ever."

“With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL. Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other,” Trump posted last week.

According to The Hill, Mexican officials replied that the country “would not pay for the wall as a principle of national sovereignty and dignity.”
