"Melrose Place" star Claudette Nevins has died at age 82. The actress had a recurring role on the popular TV show and was under hospice care when she passed away in her Los Angeles home on Feb. 20, her family has confirmed in a statement.
"Competent in everything she touched, Claudette was funny, strong-willed, awesomely disciplined, relentless in her pursuit of excellence," her family wrote.
Nevins played Constance Fielding on "Melrose Place." Her character was the mom of Matt, played by Doug Savant.
She starred on Broadway in the original production of Neil Simon’s "Plaza Suite."
Nevins also had a role on "JAG" and for a time played Andy Griffith’s wife on the show "Headmaster."
She also appeared in several other TV shows including "Seventh Heaven" and acted in feature films "Sleeping with the Enemy," "Tuff Turf," and "All the Marbles."
Nevins knew she wanted to be an actress from a young age. She attended the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan and New York University before pursuing an acting career that spanned six decades and was punctuated by stints on Broadway, regional theater, and TV shows.
She was famously known for her performance in "Plaza Suite" as well as her recurring role in "Melrose Place," which aired from 1992 to 1999, according to per her biography.
"She was a voracious reader, loved attending the theater, movies, art exhibits and generally taking in all life had to offer," her family wrote. "Starting from very humble origins, Claudette grew herself into an elegant, articulate, gorgeous woman who was universally admired. She was dazzling. She will be endlessly missed."
Nevins was predeceased by her husband Benjamin L. Pick. She is survived by their two children, Jessica and Sabrina Pick, her sister, Harriette Kaley, and several grandchildren.
