Melissa Rivers, Leno Continuing Feud Between Host, Late Comedian?

It appears Jay Leno and Melissa Rivers are carrying on a feud that started with her mother, Joan Rivers, after Melissa said the former "Tonight Show" host snubbed her right after her mother died.

The Rivers-Leno feud has been ongoing since before Leno took over the “Tonight Show,” starting between Joan Rivers and Johnny Carson. When Leno took over for Carson, he apparently decided to keep the fight going and refused to have Joan Rivers as a guest.

On his May 6 radio show, Howard Stern talked with Melissa Rivers about the feud. She said she saw Leno a few months after her mother died.

"My mother passed in September, and I was asked to speak at The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment breakfast at the beginning of December, so it was very fresh," she told Stern. "I got a text from Sarah Silverman the night before, saying, 'Oh my god, are you aware Jay Leno's at our table?' And I said, 'No, I [wasn't],' and I started to freak out. And she said, 'I'll take care of it.'"

Although the two didn’t sit together, Melissa Rivers saw Leno that morning, she said. “The next morning — and this is literally my first public appearance — I walk in, and I'm standing, having a coffee in the reception area, and Jay looks right at me, and looks away," she told Stern.

A spokesman for Leno told Us Weekly, “If he made eye contact with her, he didn't recognize it was Melissa. Had he done so, he would've come over to extend his condolences. He apologizes if she was offended, but he did not realize it was Melissa."
