Melanie Griffith revealed that she had to pay an $80,000 fine after she showed up to the set of a movie intoxicated.

The 62-year-old actress revisited the "embarrassing experience" in an oral history, "Life Isn't Everything: Mike Nichols as remembered by 150 of his closest friends," People reported.

Griffith admitted to being a part of the late 1980s New York party scene, which was rife with drugs at the time. She showed up to the set of 1988's "Working Girl" drunk and was fined.

It all began one night when she was playing pool with co-star Alec Baldwin, who was sober. For every Coke he ordered, Griffith would drink a rum and Coke. The two eventually returned to the set but Griffith decided to have a quick "slug of vodka." The results were disastrous.

The actress explained that the combination of rum and vodka made her "so drunk," which was "really funny" until she tried to walk down the stairs with Baldwin but couldn't do it.

Producer Douglas Wick recalled receiving a "distressed" call from Nichols, who was upset because "Melanie was clearly high." It later emerged that drugs were being delivered to the set for Griffith. They decided to deduct money from her salary to make up for time lost during production.

"Mike got so mad at me, he wouldn't talk to me," Griffith said. "Mike Haley, the first AD, just came up and said, 'We're shutting down. Go home,' and I knew I was in so much trouble."

The next morning she and Nichols went out for breakfast together and spoke about her antics.

"Here's what's going to happen. You're going to pay for last night out of your pocket," he told her. "We're not going to report you to the studio, but you have to pay for what it cost."

The total amount came to $80,000.

"They wanted to get my attention and they really did," Griffith said. "It was a very humbling, embarrassing experience, but I learned a lot from it."
