First lady Melania Trump wowed critics with the Chanel dress she wore at her first state dinner at the White House on Tuesday night, Vogue reported.
As President Donald Trump hosted French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Elizabeth, the U.S. first lady wore a silver Chanel Haute Couture dress, an altered version of a jumpsuit from its Spring 2018 collection, according to Vogue.
Elizabeth Macron wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress with white and gold, the magazine said.
"All eyes were on first lady Melania Trump on Tuesday night as she stole the show in a glittering Chanel gown for their first White House state dinner," reported Emily Crane of London's Daily Mail.
"Mrs. Trump wore a Chanel Chantilly lace haute couture gown that had been hand-painted with silver and embroidered with crystal and sequins, which she paired with a pair of gunmetal stilettos,” Crane said. “The U.S. first lady clearly embraced her moment in the spotlight during the French president's state visit."
Praise for her choice also came from French lifestyle magazine Elle.
"First lady Melania Trump totally outdid herself last night, sartorially at least," the magazine said. "The former model and first lady wore a dazzling Chanel gown for a state dinner at the White House."
The White House said the first lady was personally involved in every detail of the dinner, from the flower arrangements to place settings for the 123 guests, The Daily Mail said.
Melania Trump explained her involvement on social media.
