Meghan McCain to Politico: Republicans 'Not All Crazy Rednecks'

By    |   Tuesday, 10 September 2013 01:24 PM EDT

Meghan McCain, whose new documentary-talk series "Raising McCain" premieres Saturday, spoke out about her opinion of the state of the Republican Party this week, insisting that "we're not all crazy rednecks."

In promoting her show this week, McCain spoke with Politico about her reputation as a socially liberal Republican.

"I don't espouse myself to be the voice of young Republicans at all," McCain said. "I never have and people sometimes want to say I go around saying I’m the voice of young Republicans. That's not true. I'm a voice and if you like that voice, great. And if you don't, fine. We’re not all crazy rednecks."

McCain, Sen. John McCain's 28-year-old daughter, made a name for herself in 2007 when she started blogging from her father's campaign trail. She began writing as a contributing author for The Daily Beast in 2009, and her memoir "Dirty Sexy Politics" was published in 2010. She also began appearing as a commentator on MSNBC in 2011.

Now, McCain is launching a reality-style talk show on a new network called Pivot. The show, "Raising McCain," is geared toward Millennials and will address current issues plaguing the group, such as privacy concerns, the death of romance, and its reputation as a "binge" generation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

"I came to Pivot because I think there has to be some sort of middle ground between the Kardashians and C-SPAN," McCain said during a press preview of the show in July. "I want to give people information but not talk down to them. I am so excited. This is the best thing I've ever done."
