McDonald’s said Thursday it is shipping 20 million packets of Szechuan sauce to all U.S. restaurants to ensure that customers can get the condiment after fans protested a limited supply when it was first reintroduced in October.

The restaurant chain had not served the condiment for years after first introducing it in 1998 to promote Disney’s “Mulan.” An episode of the animated sci-fi comedy show “Rick and Morty” featured the sauce last year and prompted a petition to bring it back that got 38,743 signatures.

McDonald’s tried to reintroduce the sauce in October, but long lines of fans proved too much for the limited supply and many fans protested and chanted “we want sauce” when they were turned away without getting any. Some fights even broke out over the limited supply.

“Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland chastised fans on Twitter for the protests and asked fans to “please be cool to the employees it’s not their fault.”

McDonald’s then made plans to bring the sauce back in force and devoted a website to it.

“We did not anticipate the overnight crowds, the cross-state travel and the amazing curiosity, passion and energy fans showed,” McDonald’s said on the site. “Our super-limited batch, though well-intentioned, clearly wasn’t near enough to meet that demand. We disappointed fans and we are sorry.”

The sauce packets will be in McDonald's restaurants on Feb. 26.
