McCain: Palin was 'Entirely Qualified' to Be VP

Sarah Palin was entirely qualified to be the vice presidential nominee in the 2008 presidential elections, Sen. John McCain told Jake Tapper on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday.

Responding to the question of what are the most important factors Mitt Romney should consider in selecting a running mate, the former POW said the "primary, absolute, most important aspect is if something happened to him, would that person be well qualified to take that place?"

Despite the criticism that the former Alaska governor was ill fit to assume the role of president if the situation arose, McCain maintained that this was why he chose her as his running mate.

"I happen to believe that was the ... primary factor on my decision in 2008," he said, "and I know it will be Mitt's." He said Romney would choose someone he "knows he could trust."

McCain said he's "very happy to say we've got a very deep bench" of potential vice presidential candidates.
