Marsha Brady was a drug addict, actress Maureen McCormick who portrayed the 1970s teen character altruistically told "Entertainment Tonight" for an exclusive interview that was posted on Thursday.

While McCormick, 61, said on the celebrity show that she has been “clean” for 35 years, she said the time she was hooked on drugs remains painful, especially for how they ruined acting jobs and even her relationship with her parents.

"I struggled with drug addiction for gosh, six, seven years and it was awful," McCormick told ET. "I've been sober now for 35 years, and my life has never been so good."

McCormick attended the Summer Spectacular benefit in Beverly Hills for the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Drug Prevention last Saturday. Shapiro, son of celebrity attorney Robert Shapiro, died from a drug incident in 1995, according to the foundation's website.

"I am so lucky to be here, alive, and I feel like my mind is still really good," McCormick told ET about making through her drug addiction years. "I feel very, very lucky that I came out of it."

McCormick credited her husband Michael Cummings, who she has been married to for 32 years, for giving her tough love that initially inspired her to get sober, ET said.

"When we first got together, I was still dabbling, and he said, 'You know, it's either me or that, take it or I'm out of here,'" McCormick told ET. "And I realized that I didn't want to lose one of the greatest things I had ever found."

She told ET that at the height of her addition she lost acting jobs and her father even threatened to call the police on her.

In 2016, McCormick competed on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," and wasn’t eliminated until Week 7, ABC News said.
