A man rescued a rabbit from as a wildfire burned just feet away in California, and the hero's act is going viral.

In the video, a man pulls over on Highway 1 after a rabbit darts across his path and into the fire on the side of the road. He runs after the rabbit and is visibly panicked when the rabbit disappears into the burning brush. After a few seconds, the rabbit comes back out toward the road and the man grabs it and carries it away from the flames.

Twitter viewers of the video praised the man, whom the video-makers said did not want to be identified or interviewed on camera, according to People.

Wildfires have burned more than 100,000 acres in California since Monday, destroying hundreds of houses and buildings and causing one death in a rollover crash that happened while a man was trying to evacuate from Ventura County.

Twitter users praised the rabbit rescuer.
