A Maine beach ice skating video has gone viral on Facebook with nearly 2,000 shares and more than 64,000 views.

Peter Lekousi posted the video on his Facebook site after he and his wife, Sandra, found someone ice skating on Long Sands Beach in York, Maine in the frigid cold on Sunday, the Boston Globe reported.

"It was freezing cold — too cold for us to be on the beach — and he was skating on the beach," Sandra Lekousi told the Globe. "We had never seen that before. And he was a really good skater."

The National Weather Service said record lows were set across Maine on Sunday, including Portland at minus 12 degrees, The Globe said.

"I keep trying to tell you all, every day is a beach day in Maine," Paul Lekousi wrote on Facebook. "Glad this guy didn't forget to bring his ice skates to Long Sands Beach in York Maine, yesterday."

The record-breaking cold temperatures in Maine started New Year's Day and have let up little since then, according to the Portland Press Herald. The Portland International Jetport opened 2018 at 17 below zero, beating the old record for the day of 12 below set in 1957 and 1964.

The Bangor Daily News reported that places near the Maine/New Hampshire border, like Fryeburg and Cornish, saw temperatures drop to minus 26 at night. The newspaper said winds that had been blowing at 10 to 15 miles per hour had tapered off, sparing those areas from wind chills that could have made the air feel even colder.

The Daily News said, though, that temperatures were expected to warm up from the mid-20s to near the freezing mark this week, marking an end to the windy, bitter cold front there.

The Associated Press said Boston saw temperatures return to a more seasonable low 30s with the jumping to the mid-40s by Thursday and as high as the low-50s on Friday.
