Mahlon Reyes, a deckhand on the Discovery Channel reality show "Deadliest Catch," has died at age 38. The TV star suffered a heart attack Saturday morning in his hometown of Whitefish, Mont., and was rushed to a nearby hospital, his wife, Heather Sullivan, told TMZ. He never regained consciousness and was taken off life support on Sunday.

Reyes' family were unaware of any existing health conditions and an official cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results. Sullivan said her husband was cremated and his "Deadliest Catch" crew members will be scattering his ashes in the Bering Sea.

"So sad. He was so young," a Discovery Channel spokesperson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

On July 30, "Deadliest Catch" crewmember Nick McGlashan shared a group photo that included Reyes to Twitter.

"Family times. Laughing, crying and remembering our brother Mahlon Reyes," he wrote in the caption.

Fans posted countless condolence messages in response to Reyes' death.

"He was way too young," one Twitter user wrote while another replied, "I hope the memories of him can ease some of the pain."

A third Twitter user added: "So sad my prayers and thoughts are with the family. They are also with you Nick, and the crew of Summer Bay. I watch and love this show every week and know everyone on these vessels and pray for you all out their. I'm so sorry for your loss."

"Deadliest Catch," which first aired on the Discovery Channel in 2005, takes a closer look at the lives and work of crew members for Alaskan king crab, snow crab, and bairdi crab fishing ventures throughout the Bering Sea. Reyes appeared on 14 episodes of series from 2012 and worked on two boats, the Seabrooke and Cape Caution.
