Madonna’s Use of Gun Props Upsets Fans During Colorado Concert

Fans were highly disturbed by Madonna’s use of guns as props during a Colorado concert performance.

The pop singer opened her Denver show at the Pepsi Center Thursday evening with a gun scene.

As part of her current “MDNA” tour, the provocative display of guns has been employed for theatrical purposes.

According to local television station KUSA-TV, the Denver version of the show included Madonna “shooting into the crowd.”

“9NEWS received several calls Thursday night and Friday morning from concert-goers saying they were offended she used guns and violence as part of her show in light of recent events in the state,” the television station reported on its website.

Colorado residents are still trying to cope with the horrific loss of life and ongoing aftermath of a mass shooting in Aurora that occurred at a movie theater in July 2012 during a screening of a “Batman” film in which 12 people lost their lives.

A statement was issued prior to the launch of Madonna’s present tour in which the singer indicated that she does not condone the use of guns but is using them as symbols of intolerance and of her own personal pain.

“It's true there is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the use of fake guns - but they are used as metaphors,” the statement read. “I do not condone violence or the use of guns. Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging. In my case its wanting to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken.”
