Madonna will be directing and co-writing her own biopic film, which will feature many "untold" stories that have never been shared with the public before. The 62-year-old pop icon is teaming up with award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody to pen the script. They will be joined with former Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal, who will produce the Universal Pictures film.
"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world," Madonna said in a statement to the U.K's Independent. "The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive."
Madonna added that it was important that she lend her voice to the biopic.
"There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision," she said.
Pascal, who worked with Madonna on the 1992 film "A League Of Their Own," referred to the upcoming film as "an absolute labor of love."
This is not the first time that Madonna has worked behind the scenes on a film. She directed "Filth and Wisdom" in 2008 and "WE" in 2011 and was executive producer of "Madonna: Truth or Dare," a 1991 documentary that chronicled the singer's life, according to IMDB.
Madonna also appeared in several films including "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Evita," and "Swept Away."
No release date or cast for the upcoming biopic has been revealed, however, it has been rumored that "Ozark" star Julia Garner may be playing Madonna.
