Burger King's new Mac n' Cheetos reviews are in, and the general response is mixed.
The new fast food mash-up, released earlier this month as macaroni and cheese-stuffed Cheetos, drew predictable scorn from those turned off by fast food and a somewhat more favorable reception from its target audience, marketing expert Ira Kalb
wrote for The Huffington Post.
Kalb said the food item "looks like a winner for Burger King," adding that its a "uniquely creative product that has the benefits the cheese-loving target audience is looking for."
Writing for USA Today's For the Win, Ted Berg said, "they’re not good. They’re also not totally awful, as they do contain cheese and taste like cheese and cheese is good."
Joseph Hernandez,
writing for The Chicago Tribune, said the product "tastes just how you’d expect Cheetos-dusted macaroni and cheese would taste: like a gritty, fried nugget of Easy Mac, rolled in the remains of the bottom of a bag of Cheetos."
Others were more decisive in their accounts.
"This was the worst thing I have eaten in a long time. All of my fears were legitimate," Bryan Bierman
wrote for Philly Voice.
Bierman, who admitted a lifelong aversion to Cheetos, was definitive in his review.
"Once the peanut shell-ish exterior is penetrated, the taste of the worst chemically manufactured whiz you can imagine runs wild on your taste buds," Beirman wrote. "It also stays with you. I only ate one and I doubt I will ever forget it."
Twitter users also had mixed reviews.
