A lunch lady received a new car from students in the school district she has served for 26 years as a thank-you for both cooking for them and the local homeless community.

Students at San Diego, California's Hoover High School presented the white 2014 Mazda3 to Debra Davis on Monday as part of the Recycled Rides program from State Farm Insurance, 23ABC News reported.

The program donated the used car to nearby Morse High School’s auto body program through the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation. Students did the work to fix the car, including removing dents and scratches and restoring it to like-new condition, 23ABC reported.

“They are showing off their skills of repairing, and at the same time, giving away to some of their work in the community,” auto body teacher Leonardo Zarate said, 23ABC reported.

Davis was very excited about the gift, which will replace her 1976 Chevy Malibu that broke down frequently, Fox 8 reported.

“I thank God that they see my spirit,” Davis said, according to the news station. “So I want to tell them all thank you. No one has ever done anything like this for me. I thought I was going to get my heaven in heaven. But I got a little piece of heaven right here.”

Davis also said her old car, which she named “Transformer,” was going to be jealous of the new one, which she has not yet named.

Recycled Rides decided to sponsor the gift because of Davis’ long service to the school and frequent use of her car for other charity work, Fox 8 reported.

“They call me Aunt Debbie,” Davis said, 23ABC reported. “I’m just a servant. I just love helping people.”
