Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's daughter, Lucie Arnaz, is speaking out against critics who have taken issue with Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem being cast to play her parents in the upcoming film, "Being the Ricardos."
The film will be directed by Aaron Sorkin but the casting of Kidman and Bardem drew intense backlash from fans, many of whom are calling for an actor who more closely resembles Ball to fill the role. Debra Messing is among names that have been suggested but Lucie is having none of it.
In a Facebook video on Sunday, she was quick to defend Kidman.
"There seems to be a lot of discussion about 'Nicole Kidman, it should be Debra Messing, it should be Carole Cook,' I don't know," she began. "Here's the deal, what you should understand: We are not doing a remake of 'I Love Lucy.' No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine or ... any of the silly things."
The upcoming film will follow a week of production on the sitcom "I Love Lucy," Fox News reported. In the '50s sitcom, Ball portrayed Lucy Ricardo and Desi played Ricky Ricardo. Lucie pointed out that "Being the Ricardos" was a film about Ball and Desi, not the characters they played in the sitcom. The main focus would be on her parent's "relationship, their love affair," she explained.
"I hope I can set the record straight here and say stop arguing about 'Who should play it? She doesn't look like her? The nose isn't the same, she isn't as funny,'" the actress added in her video. "Just trust us. It's gonna be a nice film. And P.S.: The voting is over."
