Loganville, Georgia, is reeling from killings that left four young children and their father dead, another child injured, and the mother in custody.
Gwinnett County police received a call at about 4:45 am Thursday morning, according to People magazine. When they arrived, they found four of the woman’s five young children and her husband dead with stab wounds. The mother is suspected of stabbed them to death.
The children were all younger than 10 years old and the husband was in his mid-30s.
"Fortunately, they found one additional child who was still alive suffering from serious conditions," police told People magazine.
The woman is currently in custody, but has yet to be charged.
"She was quickly taken into custody and right now she’s at Gwinnett County Police Headquarters being interviewed," Gwinnett County police Cpl. Michele Pihera told reporters at the crime scene, according to CBS News. "Right now we believe we have everybody involved in this crime. … What her motivations are for committing this horrendous crime, we still don’t know."
"What prompts a person to take the life of such innocent children and her spouse is something we may never understand," officials said in a statement, according to People magazine. "This is a horrendous crime not only for the victims but for the extended family, neighborhood and community."
"We are hoping and praying that the remaining victim survives his/her injuries and makes a full recovery," officials added.
Neighbors told WSB-TV that the woman was depressed over the death of her father.
"She seemed so normal, like regular mother," a neighbor told the television station. "She was good, went to our church last weekend, she was there with us."
