Buffalo Bills tight end Logan Thomas announced Thursday on Twitter that his newborn daughter had died after being born prematurely.

Brooklynn Rose was born Tuesday evening just about halfway into the pregnancy, and died shortly thereafter, according to Buffalo Rumblings. The couple had announced the gender of the baby earlier this month and listed their due date as April 2018.

Thomas has four sons with wife Brandie. His family had spent the month of training camp with him and had attended most of his practices, Buffalo Rumblings reported.

Thomas, a former quarterback turned tight end, missed practice on Wednesday but returned on Thursday. He had the first receiving touchdown of his career last week against the Buccaneers.

Thomas told Joe Buscaglia of WKBW that being with the team took his mind off the loss and that family members are helping at home while he works with the team.

Coach Sean McDermott addressed Thomas’ loss during his Friday news conference.

“I was just happy to see Logan’s smiling face in here yesterday, not from a football standpoint at all, but mostly for him to be around and for us to be able to embrace him and him to be around his teammates,” McDermott said, ProFootballTalk reported. “He seems to be handling it as well as anyone could at this point.”

Twitter also offered condolences to Thomas and his family.
