Internet star Logan Paul’s YouTube channels have had their ads suspended by the platform because of objectionable content in a number of his recent videos.

YouTube said the suspension is temporary. “This is not a decision we made lightly; however, we believe he has exhibited a pattern of behavior in his videos that makes his channel not only unsuitable for advertisers, but also potentially damaging to the broader creator community,” the company said in a statement.

Paul posted a video Dec. 31 that showed the body of a person who had apparently committed suicide in Japan’s Aokigahara forest. He apologized after the incident and took a three-week break from his daily video blog, returning in late January.

Since his return, however, Paul has joked about taking the dangerous “Tide Pod challenge,” in which people eat laundry pods and post a video, and on Feb. 5, Tasered a dead rat.

Paul was already suspended from YouTube’s Preferred Ad program and its Originals series since January. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki promised on Feb. 1 to better enforce its policies using technology and thousands of new employees that would curate content.

The decision to demonetize Paul’s channels is meant to warn other content creators that YouTube's enforcement efforts are becoming stricter and that it intends to act to protect advertisers from being presented on objectionable channels.

Paul has more than 16 million subscribers to his vlogs and generated revenue from ads that played on his videos. He's gained nearly 1 million subscribers since the start of 2018 despite his antics.
