Loch Ness Monster? 'Unusual' Sonar Images Follow Map Excitement

New sonar images released this week have added fuel to the Loch Ness monster conspiracy storm already brewing in Scotland.

The most recent images were captured via a device aboard a Jacobite Cruises vessel near Inverness.

"The Jacobite Queen spends every day sailing up and down the loch with the sonar on, and this reading is the most unusual we have seen for quite some time," skipper John Askew told The Scotsman. "It's impossible to tell what we've picked up here, but along with those satellite images, you can't help feeling that reports of the Loch Ness monster's demise may be premature. Nessie captures the imagination of people all over the world and, if anything, the speculation around lack of recent sightings has increased that interest."

Tales of the lake monster have survived more than eight decades in Scotland and around the world, though the scientific community regards Nessie's existence as a myth.

But Lock Ness loyals insist the creature is real, a sort of plesiosaur, which is a type of carnivorous aquatic reptile from millions of years ago.

The monster also made headlines recently when a U.K. man claimed to have spotted it in a satellite image on Apple Maps.

"It was a total fluke that I found it," Andrew Dixon told the Daily Mail. "I was looking at satellite images of my town and then just thought I’d have a look at Loch Ness. The first thing that came into my head when I saw it was, 'That’s the Loch Ness Monster.' It was the shape of it; I thought it had to be something more than a shadow."
