A live-action “Snow White” musical is in the works at Disney, and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this week that the writer who penned the script for “The Girl on the Train” is in talks to join the project.

Following in the footsteps of the latest live-action adaptations of its classic films, Disney is looking to reinvent the wheel of the original "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'" massive studio success in 1937, according to The Reporter.

The Oscar-winning original film, which marked Disney's first full-length animated movie, remains the tenth highest-grossing picture of all time, when adjusted for inflation, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Erin Cressida Wilson, who wrote “The Girl on the Train,” would be adding to her extensive resume if she comes to an agreement with Disney. Along with writing the script for “The Girl on the Train,” Wilson also penned Jason Reitman’s “Men, Women & Children” and produced the HBO series “Vinyl,” The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Other recent adaptations of the "Snow White" fairy tale include 2012's "Mirror Mirror" with Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, as well as Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" series.

In the last three years, Disney has released three live-action films — “Maleficent,” “Cinderella,” and “The Jungle Book," each of which generated more than $200 million at the box office in the U.S. According to BoxOfficeMojo, “The Jungle Book” earned more than $966 million globally.

The next Disney live-action film scheduled for a spring 2017 release is “Beauty and the Beast" starring Emma Watson.

Disney is also in the process of developing a live-action version of “Mulan,” which is set to be released sometime in 2018. Also in the works is “The Lion King” and “Aladdin," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
