A "medical emergency" has forced Lisa Marie Presley to delay her divorce and custody trial with estranged husband Michael Lockwood. Elvis Presley's daughter was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, but the date has now been pushed back to Friday, The Sun has revealed.
"The matter is not called for hearing," court documents state. "Counsel for Petitioner represents that Petitioner cannot appear this date due to a medical emergency." No further details were divulged.
Lisa Marie and Lockwood share twin girls, Finley and Harper, 11, and have been fighting a bitter divorce and custody battle since 2016, when they split after 10 years of marriage. Lockwood has accused Lisa Marie of attempting to alienate him from their daughters and claimed to have been subject to "hyper-aggressive litigation" from her legal team as well as "hearings spurred by baseless salacious allegations."
Earlier this year, Lockwood filed court documents asking that the court strip Lisa Marie of primary custody of their daughters amid concerns that his ex-wife will relapse into drug and alcohol dependency following the suicide of her son, Benjamin Keough.
"Lisa Marie Presley’s son shot and killed himself in her home (Although she was not there at the time.) With all due sympathy and respect, this creates a new and unaddressed twofold problem: the safety of the children and the greater likelihood of LMP to relapse into drug and alcohol dependency," the legal documents read.
Lockwood also voiced concerns that Lisa Marie, who battled an addiction to opioids and alcohol for years, may be a threat to herself and their children.
"The children told (him) that (LMP) walked around the house with a gun in her hand in 2017. There was at least one gun on the premises of her home at the time of her son’s suicide and it is unclear where the gun was kept or whether Finley and/or Harper might have access to this gun or others," he wrote in the filing.
"Thus, there is a significantly higher risk to the safety of the children which would ordinarily justify 100% physical custody to (me) at this time in such circumstances," he added.
