A riff between the 1990s R&B group TLC and the family of the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes has ignited with the group's remake one of its biggest hits "Waterfalls" without Lopes on the track.
Lopes, one of TLC's original members, died in an automobile accident while in Honduras in 2002. Her rap on "Waterfalls" gave the song its edge that remained popular with many of the Grammy-winning band's fans.
That portion of the song is being replaced by the voice of Japanese recording artist Namie Amuro, drawing the ire of Lopes' family, according to TMZ. Lopes' sister Reigndrop Lopes said the remake caught family members off guard.

"I did not know about it until a fan posted it online," Reigndrop Lopes told TMZ. "I mean it would have been nice if they would have given us a heads up before being surprised."
E! Online reported that the "Waterfalls" remake, labeled "20th Anniversary Version – Japan Edition," was pulled from YouTube. The surviving two members of the group, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chili" Thomas performed as a duo since Lopes' death, but never reached its same level of success.
E! Online said the group continued to sale records away from the United States. The group announced at England's Mobo Awards that they were working on their first album of original music in 10 years.
TLC appeared in Japan last weekend to receive the Legends Award from MTV Japan. E! Online said Lopes' mother and Reigndrop Lopes attended the ceremony. E! said TLC is also scheduled to play the Mixtape Festival in Pennsylvania on July 27, its first U.S. performance since 2009.

At the height of their success, TLC was one of the most popular musical acts in the country. Its album "CrazySexyCool," which featured "Waterfalls," sold 23 million albums worldwide. In 2012, TLC ranked 12th on VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music, being ranked the number one all girl group on that list.
Between 1992 and 2003, the band accumulated 10 top 10 singles, four No. 1 singles, four multi-platinum albums, and four Grammy Awards, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
