Lindsay Lohan to Star in 'Speed-the-Plow' London West End Revival

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan will try her hand on the London stage in the revival of David Mamet's Tony Award-winning Broadway play "Speed-the-Plow" in September.

Lohan will play Karen, a role originated by a young Madonna in the show's first run on Broadway in 1988, according to Broadway.com. The play is set to start at London's Playhouse Theatre Sept. 24 and run through Nov. 30.

Variety reported that "Mad Men's" Elisabeth Moss and Laura Michelle Kelly of "Finding Neverland" have also in the past tackled the role of Karen, a green but ambitious Los Angeles secretary trying to follow her dream to make it big in Hollywood while working for her two movie executive bosses.

"Speed-the-Plow" made its London debut in 1989 and was revived in the West End in 2000 and at The Old Vic in 2008, according to Broadway.com. The play had a Broadway revival at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 2008.

The New York Times wrote that Joe Mantegna played Bobby Gould and Ron Silver played Charlie Fox in the original Broadway version. Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum have also starred in past London versions of the play, according to Variety.

There has not yet been an announcement on who will join Lohan on stage, according to Broadway.com, but the actress shared her excitement about the new gig on Twitter Thursday.

The former child actress who started in the 2004 hit "Mean Girls" as a teenager, has failed to gain any traction in reviving her movie career after a slew of personal problems, documented in her reality series "Lindsay" on Oprah Winfrey's OWN this year.

Lohan completed her sixth trip to rehab last year before beginning the reality show, dubbed a docu-drama. The eight-part reality show followed Lohan through her life after rehab in an attempt to restart a once-promising acting career.

The star had two drunken driving arrests in 2007 and then numerous other driving-related incidents and a shoplifting charge, to boot. She has been locked up in jail briefly on four different occasions, and once served 35 days of house arrest.
