LiAngelo Ball and two other UCLA players have been released on bail in China, after being arrested on charges of shoplifting on Tuesday afternoon, sources told ESPN.

According to the report, the group of players, which includes Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, had been detained in connection with theft from a Louis Vuitton store next to the team's hotel in Hangzhou. Their arrest came one day before President Donald Trump arrived in China.

Police arrived at their hotel to question the three players on Tuesday morning before escorting Ball, Riley and Hill down to the local police station, where they were detained for several hours. Ball is the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball.

Sources told ESPN that the three players were released in the early hours of Wednesday morning and were staying at a luxury hotel, where police required them to remain until the legal process ends.

The Bruins are scheduled to kick off their basketball season on Saturday in Shanghai against Georgia Tech, but UCLA coach Steve Alford said, “those individuals won't play Saturday," National Public Radio reported.

An unidentified woman from the local Public Security Bureau told The Wall Street Journal that the three players were not formally under arrest and that their personal freedom had not been limited while police gathered evidence and conducted investigations.

Pac-12 Commissioner, Larry Scott said in a statement via the newspaper that he was “very disappointed by any situation that detracts from the positive student-athlete educational and cultural experience that this week is about.”

Meanwhile, UCLA released a statement, saying, "We are aware of a situation involving UCLA student-athletes in Hangzhou, China,” Business Insider noted.

“The University is cooperating fully with local authorities on this matter, and we have no further comment at this time."

According to the report, three additional players from Georgia Tech had also been questioned by police in relation to the incident, but were later cleared.
