LeBron James got ejected for the first time in his career in a game against Miami Heat on Tuesday, according to the NBA.

The incident occurred during his 1,082nd regular season game, when James confronted referee Kane Fitzgerald about a no-call after missing a shot as he drove to the basket.

James was given a technical foul and was ejected with 1:59 remaining in the third quarter, after he squared up to the ref, arguing that Heat forward James Johnson had fouled his attempt.

"I got fouled all the way up the court, from the time that I stripped him, all the way until I got to the rim," said James, ESPN noted.

"I said what I had to say and then I moved on, but he decided I should get [ejected]."

As a way of explaining his actions, James said Johnson deliberately taunted him on the court.

"Immediately after the no-call, he turned and threw an air punch directly at me, and then he aggressively charged at me, and then he used vulgarity in my ear a few times," he said, according to ESPN.

There has since been speculation as to whether James touched Fitzgerald in the altercation but the Cavaliers' public relations department dismissed this in a statement to USA Today, stating that James did not make contact with the ref.

James is known to be vocal when in disagreement with a referee's call and has been called for technical fouls in the past but, on receiving the first tech of a game, he has been careful not to collect another in the same game.

Tuesday's game changed that for James who, according to USA Today, had 56 career techs before the Heat game

"I've never been thrown out in my life," he said, per the news outlet. "They always say there's a first time for everything. Tonight was the night."

James has since made light of the incident on social media, sharing a photo of his shoes on the court to Instagram with a caption that read:

"Guess we'll call these "The Ejected Game" Soldier 11 colorway. Another great win tonight! We're going Streaking!! In my Will Ferrell(Old School) voice. #StriveForGreatness."
