LeBron James revealed this week that he's thinking about investing in a deal with David Beckham to possibly bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Miami.

The Miami Heat star discussed the possibility of teaming up with the international soccer star with reporters Monday.

"There is some interest on both sides," James said, according to Fox Sports Florida. "David has become a good friend of mine over the last few years. I think it would be great for this city to have a football club for sure. There is interest on both sides, but it's preliminary talks. But there is some open dialogue."

Beckham, who played for the Los Angeles Galaxy for five and a half years, announced his retirement from the sport in May. As part of his contract, he has the option of buying a MLS franchise at a discounted price.

He has said previously that Miami is his first choice for a destination for a new soccer team. The city played host to the Miami Fusion from 1998 to 2001, but does not currently have a Major League Soccer club.

Besides being a four-time NBA Most Valuable Player, James is also an avid soccer fan and even invested some money in Liverpool's club in 2011.

"I've grown a great interest in watching the game and learning it and it's a pretty intense sport," he said. "And my kids love it as well. But I've grown to the point where I know exactly what's going on when I'm watching the game.

"It's like buying a house," James said of the investment deal. "You don't know until you sign the papers."
