Lea Michele's New Single 'Cannonball' Gets Good Reviews Ahead of Album

“Glee” star Lea Michele has released the first track from her debut album “Louder” and it is quickly moving up the charts and winning over fans.

Rolling Stone writer Ron Blistein gave Michele's "Cannonball" a favorable review, writing: “The track is instantly memorable, not surprising considering the number of top hit-makers behind it, including cowriters Sia (Britney Spears, Katy Perry) and Benny Blanco (Perry, Maroon 5). Production comes courtesy of the Norwegian duo Stargate (Rihanna, Beyonce). Still, it’s Michele’s powerhouse vocals that take center stage on 'Cannonball' as she deftly switches from her Broadway-trained belting and 'Glee'-honed pop chops.”

Tweeted Michele:

The release comes just months after Michele’s boyfriend and “Glee” co-star Cory Monteith died from a heroin and alcohol overdose. “We were lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart,” she said while collecting an award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy a month after Monteith’s death.

The new single continues with the theme, as the song is one of perseverance. “I was scared to death I was losing my mind,” Michele sings. “But now I think I found the light at the end of the tunnel.”

“Louder” is set for release on March 4. The album cover, meanwhile, is receiving notice for its portrait of Michele with flowing wet hair framing a face with a determined look and intense eyes.

Wrote HollywoodLife.com: “The 27-year-old looked super stunning in then new photo ... her makeup looks amazing (her smoky eye is absolutely piercing) and her wind-blown hair basically takes our breath away.”

Besides her television and singing career, Michele has starred on Broadway in “Les Misearbles,” “Ragtime,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Spring Awakening.”
