The Las Vegas shooting timeline underwent a dramatic change Monday when authorities said a hotel security guard was shot in the leg by alleged shooter Stephen Paddock before he fired on a crowd of concertgoers near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Oct. 1, ABC News reported.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, who has led law enforcement spokesman during the investigation, said Monday hotel security guard Jesus Campos was shot in the leg allegedly by Paddock before the shooting rampage and not during it as previously reported, per ABC News.

Campos, who was checking out an alert for an open door in another guest's room when he was shot, contacted hotel security about his injury, but responding law enforcement did not know he had been shot until they arrived on the 32nd floor, Lombardo said Monday, per ABC News.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that according to the new time, Paddock allegedly shot Campos six minutes before he opened fire on 22,000 people attending the music festival.

Campos was previously credited to helping stop the shooting spree, but Lombardo said authorities do not know why Paddock allegedly stopped shooting, per ABC News.

"In your zest for information and my zest to ensure the public safety and the calming of their minds, some things are going to change," Lombardo said about the changing timeline, the Review-Journal stated.

The newspaper reported that the updated timeline raises new questions as to why it took an hour for officers to enter Paddock's room.

Lombardo added that Paddock checked into Mandalay Bay on Sept. 25, three day earlier that police previously believed, the Review-Journal stated. He said a motive for the shooting remains a mystery.

"We have no evidence or intelligence that the suspect was linked (to) or had affiliations with any known terrorist groups or ideologies," Lombardo told reporters, per the Review-Journal.
