Las Vegas guard Jesus Campos reportedly disappeared Thursday, moments before he was scheduled to conduct a series of television interviews.

Campos has been hailed as the hero who risked his life approaching Stephen Paddock's sniper’s nest 32 stories above the bloody massacre which left 58 people dead and more than 500 others injured in Las Vegas earlier this month.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Campos vanished from the public eye, with a union official claiming it has been four days since the security guard was seen.

“We have had no contact with him . . . Clearly, somebody knows where he is," said David Hickey, president of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America union, according to the LA Times.

Hickey was reportedly last with Campos on Thursday, when the Mandalay Bay security guard was meant to speak about the Las Vegas massacre to several news channels, including Fox, CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC.

Campos was staying in a suite in a Las Vegas hotel where he was waiting on the day of his disappearance while Hickey attended a meeting with MGM representatives, the LA Times said. When Hickey returned to Campos’ room after the meeting had ended at around 2 p.m., he found the security guard was gone and was told that the Campos had been taken to a “Quick Care” health clinic, the newspaper said.

The fact-check website Snopes addressed conspiracy theories about the incident.

“[Campos] is not missing. He’s not under arrest. We tell people what we know. If they don’t believe it but they’re going to believe whatever web site, then I don’t know what else to tell you,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer Larry Hadfield said, according to Snopes.

Richard A. Patterson, a founding partner of the law firm Owen, Patterson & Owen, said maintaining a low profile could be in Campos’ best interest.

“Based on my clients’ experiences, it’s a lot just to have the courage to speak publicly once and deal with the exposure in the media and post-traumatic stress they’re suffering from. It’s reliving the tragedy,” Patterson said, according to Snopes.

“It would be very reasonable to expect that Mr. Campos has either been directed by his medical care providers or his family or from his own sense of balance to withdraw from public appearances at this point. I think we owe him the opportunity to get a couple of weeks behind him that will enable him to gather his strength and his emotional focus to be able to deal with these things. In our opinion, he’s a hero.”

On Monday Fox News reported that the UMC Quick Care had "heard nothing" about Campos visiting them.

"For the past four days he's been preparing . . . we had a meeting with MGM officials, and after that meeting was over, we talked about the interviews, we went to a private area, and when we came out, Mr. Campos was gone," Hickey remarked, according to Fox 5 Las Vegas.

Campos’ alleged disappearance comes at a time when authorities are trying to establish how the shooting unfolded. The timeline has been altered twice, with many questions being raised.

The LA Times noted that Campos lived in a residential northern Las Vegas neighborhood and, on Sunday, a white truck with a white towel covering the license plate was parked outside the residence.

A man sitting in the truck said he had been hired to guard the house and ensure members of the media did not enter the property.

Neighbors said they noticed the truck last week and further stated they could not understand why Campos had disappeared.
