Larry King's sons are "heartbroken" over their father's death. The iconic TV legend passed away on Saturday after he was hospitalized with COVID-19. Hours later his sons, Larry King, Jr., Chance King, and Cannon King, opened up about the devastating news.
"We are heartbroken over our father’s death, and together with our extended family mourn his passing," they wrote in a joint statement. "The world knew Larry King as a great broadcaster and interviewer, but to us he was 'dad,'” they continued. "He was the man who lovingly obsessed over our daily schedules and our well-being, and who took such immense pride in our accomplishments — large, small, or imagined. And, through it all, we knew without a doubt in the world that he loved us more than life itself."
The trio described King as "an amazing father" who was "fiercely loyal" to his friends. "We will miss him every single day of our lives," they added.
King died Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at age 87. Shortly after news of his death broke, dozens of celebrities and political figures took to social media to pay tribute to the broadcasting legend. Among them was former president Bill Clinton.
"I enjoyed my 20+ interviews with Larry King over the years," Clinton wrote in a tweet. "He had a great sense of humor and a genuine interest in people. He gave a direct line to the American people and worked hard to get the truth for them, with questions that were direct but fair. Farewell, my friend."
Oprah Winfrey also remembered King on social media. "It was always a treat to sit at your table," she tweeted. "And hear your stories. Thank you Larry King."
